League Champs!

The 99 Lapeer Storm finished their league play in first place with an impressive 11-4-1 record.  The Storm didn't need to win their last two games but did anyways and in strong fashion.


Friday night the Storm took on the defending league champs(Redford) at Cranbrook Academy.  Goalie Kris Prange got his first start in net and stood tall facing 21 shots.  The Storm gave up some early goals but in the end cruised to a 6-3 win.  Gage Thrall had two goals and Conor Witherspoon had a playmaker(3 assists).


Saturday the Storm hosted their rival from downriver, Trenton.  Despite allowing the first goal early in the first period the Storm battled through some rough play to down Trenton 4-1. Hogan Butler had the game winner with assists coming from Chuck Yates and Troy Belko.  Darren Newman led the team with 7 hits and Garrett Yarger had his first playmaker of the year.


The Storm will have a few weeks to prepare for playoffs and Districts.


Storm Back on Top

After a successful weekend the 99 Lapeer Storm find themselves back atop their Little Caesar's Division.

Friday the Storm, despite being out shot 24-19, beat cross town foe Flint 2-1.  The Storm looked to have a comfortable 2-0 lead late in the third period but gave up a goal to the visiting Flint team.  Netminder Conner McDowell and the Storm D were equal to a final desperate flurry by the visitors and sealed the win.

Saturday the Storm hosted the Howe 1 White division leader in the Michigan Nationals.  The Storm started out slow giving up a goal early in the 2nd period and found themselves trailing 1-0.  The rest of the second went to the Storm and they surged to a 2-1 lead.  Late in the Third the Nationals caught the Storm pressing for a third goal and tied the game at 2-2.  The tie gave the Storm a 1 point lead in the division ahead of Victory Honda.  Lapeer will be at the Midland Silver Sticks this coming weekend before resuming league play Dec 18th Home Vs. the Macomb Mavericks.


Motown Cup Champs!

After a rocky start on Friday the Storm regrouped and took home the hardware.

Friday night the Storm team was hampered by early penalties and gave up 3 power play goals to the Trenton 99s.  Unable to bounce back from the early deficit the Storm lost 4-1 to the hometown favorites.

The team came back in stirring fashion beating the National Elite team from Pennsylvania 7-1 and needing to win by at least three, the Storm responded with a 9-1 win over defending D5 champs Midland.

Despite starting out again in the box and again down early the Storm battled back from a 2-0 deficit against a very good Trenton team.  The Storm avenged their Friday night loss winning a nail bitter 4-3. -Keigan Wildfong scored the game tying goal and Zack Hartig scored the winner off a clean face off win by Gage Thrall and pretty pass from Max Hendrickson.

The Storm continued the 4 game streak by dispatching Flint 6-3 on Tuesday.


Heart Breaking Double OT Loss in League Semi Finals

The Storm cruised to a 6-1 victory over the Livingston Lightning in Little Caesar Quarter Final action only to lose a heartbreaker in the Semi Final Game.

The Storm battled back from a 2 goal defecit to tie the game with only 14 seconds to go in the third period.  After a scoreless overtime the Storm and the Jags looked like they would be going to a shoot out to decide who would move on to the Finals but with 24 seconds to go in the second OT the Jags got the bounce that would send them on to the Finals vs. the Kentwood Falcons.

"Storm, it's alright we played our hearts out to the end to were it stopped beating and we were still alive to win the game but it just wasnt our time. We all played great.  Let's still follow through with our heads up and get ready for next year."

It was a great run and the boys should be very proud of their accomplishments this year.


Storm Tie Up a Spot in the Little Caesar's Quarter Finals

The 99 Lapeer Storm manage to move into the LCAHL Quarter Finals with a 2-2 tie on Saturday against the Michigan Nationals.  It was the second time the Nationals and the Storm skated to a tie  But there will be no ties this coming Sunday as the Quarter Finals, Semi Finals and Championship will go to OT and then a shoot out if the teams are tied after 3 periods.

The Storm Falls One Goal Short of Moving on to District Semi Finals

Despite missing some players over the weekend the Storm had an impressive showing against a host of Strong Teams.  The Storm showed they belonged in the field by beating the strongest D5 team(Saginaw) on Friday 5-3.  The Storm needed a win or tie on Sunday to advance to the semi finals.  Lead by one of the best PWAA players in the state Port Huron held off the Storm by one goal.  Final 5-4.

King's Cup Tournament Runner Up

Game 1 Vs. Michigan Natioanls - The Storm played strong and seemed to have the game in hand when a blocked shot turned into a late game tying goal.

Final Score: Storm 4 MI Nats 4

 

Game 2 Vs. Muskegon - The Storm started strong and cruised to a shut out victory over the Chiefs.

Final Score: Storm 6 Chiefs 0

 

Game 3 Vs. An overconfident Storm team started slow and could not get moving after falling behind.

Final Score: Storm 3 Redford 4

 

Game 4 Semi-Finals Vs. Michigan Nationals - The Storm, eager to prove that they should have won the first meeting, jumped out to an early lead and refused to let go despite a host of penalties including two long 5 on 3's.  But the Storm killed off those penalties and moved on to the finals.

Final Score: Storm 6 MI Nats 3

 

Finals Vs. Chelsea - The Storm scored first and controlled the play much of the first 2 periods but at the beginning of the third period the score was tied 1-1.  Despite out shooting the Chiefs 31-14 the Chiefs capitalized on a late breakaway goal to win the game.

Final Score: Storm 1 Chiefs 2
